Default Anti-Leeching Petition

With things to do running thin; the kurzick and luxon titles are some of the few titles people still need to max. This has resulted in a flood of players in JQ; AW and RA. Not long afther a hoard of leechers followed.

Leeching has always been a common thing in guild wars; but lately its gotten out of hand. More often than not, half the team consists of leechers.

It has gotten so bad that people dont report them anymore because they feel hardly anything is done at all to stop them. The current penalty measures are insufficient. Bottom line leechers are spoiling the fun. Besides its highly unfair rewarding players for putting no effort whatsoever in bringing victory to a team.

This is my petition. Not only should leechers get dishonour hex when reported. I propose all caught leeching also have 4k of balthazar and faction subtracted from their account.

This will do 2 things:
It will encourage players to report leechers; and it will INSTANTLY discourage leeching.

I understand the severity of my proposal. Therefore i also suggest that at least 4 players must report a player for leeching in order for the meassure to take effect; as to discourage players from reporting others out of spite.

+1, as long as cases are allowed to appeal in case of wrongful accusations.

I already posted (imho) a perfect method of getting rid of bots in any form of arena. Go here and sign and try to get regina to read it and do something about it.

I know when I played WoW if you went afk from the game for 5 or so minutes it would automaticly set you to AFK status in game.

When you PVP'ed if your AFK status popped up while pvping it would automaticly kick you from the pvp and you would get dishonor tag put on you for 15 minutes. This would not only stop people from leeching once every 15 minutes but they couldnt even leech in that round. So it was a no win situation.

I think Guild Wars needs to do something similar to that. Have some kind of system set so when somebody dosent move their player for 5 minutes it automaticly sets them to afk resulting in a kick from pvp.

Come on, guys. It's like you're giving up, here. If this is a big problem, let's get anet to do something about it, not accept defeat. Even if this game is getting old and dying. The proposed idea is great so long as there are at least 2 people reporting it. Even with 4 as the minimum requirement that isn't sufficient. There's always a chance that just one will not report, and that screws the report right there. Odds are, only one will spite the player. Although, it could be a problem if all members of team hate the player if they think it is a noob. Perhaps if anet tweaks the system so it would recognize a leecher by telling if it is moving or not. Of course, the leechers can break that system and just move around and still do nothing out of rebillion to anet. If that is ever the case, the system can be tweaked so if that same person is reported again and again for the same issue, the back lash would be even worse for each new report. For example, this sin was reported leech in the first match and got the usual hex punishment. Then, the sin does it again, and again. Soon, the sin realizes that the system has started to deplete it's faction. Furthermore, it can't go into a pvp arena OR pve with any character in its account for a period of time. Now, if a monk got reported by QQ team mates, it would still get the hex, though minor as they would always be with their first reports, but still participate in arena battles. After the next match, if it wasn't reported, the hex leaves. Not too solid, I know, but the concept sounds reasonable.

I agree with Owik Gall, if the severity of the reports increase (on an account wide basis obviously) then it would make it so that normal PvPers wouldn't get too harshly punished, whilst leechers and botters would feel the whole total pain I also like the idea of having their characters not being able to enter PvE in addition to PvP

How is losing 4k bad for a leecher? As long as it's "profitable" a leecher won't give shit about losing 4k. That's why dishonorable for 15 or however long doesn't work either, why would a leecher care about that? And seeing as there is very little cost to leeching (running your PC is all that's needed), it's profitable very quickly (not to mention enough people have their PC running anyway or have their parents pay for electricity).

Like Reverend has posted in the topic of MercenaryKnight, it's about effort/risk vs reward.

Anet just has to do one thing, which is sending a mod to that area. Mod writes down the names of people who repeatedly are leeching. Check back again two days later and if those names are still there leeching, give them a 3-day ban. Send them e-mail that their account has been listed as leecher and if caught again, permaban. Check a week or so later again which accounts are still leeching repeatedly, and permaban those. Why repeatedly? To make sure no one who has had to leave just after pushing enter mission gets punished (there are valid reasons to leave your PC running such as emergencies)
Obviously do this regularly and it should be cleaned up pretty quickly.

Add +10 minutes of dishonor for every consecutive hex and a daily quota of how many times you can get dishonor eg: 3x a day= 24hr pvp ban.

Too bad that certain individuals can leech for as long as 2 years and still not be banned. I know anet reads this but refuses to do anything about it. I wonder why?

Using AFK status or not-moving as an indication of botting won't work, unfortunately. I've been in Fort Aspenwood enough times recently to know that the 'clever' bots just target a team player and follow them wherever they move. Then they spam a couple of skills until killed.
The report system, I think, was introduced with the best of intentions but not enough forethought. If more than half your team is made of bots, you get the dishonour for reporting them. The better way to tackle the bot problem would be to restrict entry to the arena....set a random question that has to be answered within a short amount of time. If you don't answer or get it wrong, you don't get to enter the arena.

Well they could just wait till the end of the game to award any faction for kills and the like to the players that had actualy taken an active part in combat instead of every party member

To resolve leeching, all that needs to be done is allow for parties in JQ and FA...
Especially the setup used in TA at the moment. Quality players can form a team of 8, won't have to sync and can just play... People looking for a quick match can try to hit enter and just party up with people, whether in groups of 2, 3, 4, ... ,8.

Leechers, will most likely be partied with other leechers and not win, thereby taking away the incentive to leech. No reporting or any other crap need to be changed then. The end result will also make JQ and FA more fun, as it will become competitive and efficient teams are better.

Something similar can be said for AB, etc... Also, just get rid of RA.... the concept of RA should be for characters less than level 20.

My proposal is what it is. I thank you all for your suggestions; but 'keep in mind some of your ideas would take to much programing for anet to even consider the thought.

Let me elaborate om my petition:

The 4k balthazar and alligiance faction deduction on the account would be per match. No match paysout more than 4k so leeching would be a loose loose situation.

Spiters will report people for being incompetent; however the chance of a whole team reporting a person is very slim. Teams are created at random so the chance of this happening would be very small.

The penalty i propose is not so large. So if you get a disconnect it would not be the end of the world. However the penalty is severe enough to discourage players from leeching. I'm confedent that 1 month afther introduction leeching will be a thing of the past. Put in the time; do the work and get a reward. Abuse it and get penalized.

My proposal is easy to incorporate in the current system. 4 reports per match against; and the system aoutomatically deducts 4k faction from your account.

On a side note:
It amazes me that so far few people have reacted to this thread. It makes me wonder about the guru community. I mean no insult whatsover to all the honest players out there. Dont take this personal.
